Countywide Priorities
Building Community Power
Building community power by increasing your voice and influence over your places.
Poverty Proofing - Warwickshire County Council worked with Children North East to establish a ‘Poverty Proofing’ offer in a variety of public service settings. The aim of the work was to understand the opportunities for how services are designed and offered to change, so that people find them easier and more friendly to access. Venues that took part in the programme include North Warwickshire Borough Council leisure centres; SWFT midwifery and health visiting service; Mary Anne Evans Hospice and palliative care; George Eliot Hospital maternity service; Rugby organisations including the museum, theatre, NHS community services, and early years provision including the Barnardo’s children’s centre.
Improving the health and wellbeing of the families of military personnel - The spouses and children of military personnel who are based in barracks in Warwickshire experience more barriers to using services than most people, a situation worsened by the pandemic and strict security arrangements on sites. A pilot service is in development to target the cohort at Bramcote Barracks, drawing on money allocated by the C&W ICB. We aim to establish a health prevention mechanism through the barracks, that will signpost and support families to access local health services such as health checks, early years support, and mental wellbeing interventions.
Targeted suicide prevention - Work has happened across Warwickshire North in response to the local data, with action picked up within the Nuneaton and Bedworth Levelling Up plan to sustain suicide prevention activity within the borough, in particular where they align to the 19 priority LSOAs and/or known suicide risk factors. Partnership activity has included boroughwide mental health and wellbeing awareness campaigns, including a community Wellbeing Event. Further discussions are scheduled with the Rugby Place Partnership to identify opportunities for a local response.
